Blogger is the popular tool from Google that allows users to create and host a free blog site. Easy to use and dynamic, this is a great tool to start giving the students in your class a voice that can reach beyond the walls of the classroom. Make sure that you moderate the conversations for young students and you can also make the blogging experience a private one so that people without permission are denied access to the blog.
Edmodo is a private microblogging site (like Twitter) that teachers and students can use to send notes, links, files, alerts, assignments, and events to each other. It is a great way to communicate in a safe and controlled environment while still keeping the immediacy and appeal of a social network.
The Pinterest for education. The Learnist apps are going to make Learnist in general take off. The apps facilitate sharing, tagging, liking, and learning. Learnist is designed to be an educational social network and it’s only a few months old. The apps are only a few days old. In other words, there are millions of teachers and students not yet using the site … but they will be. Very soon.
Schoology is a free web-based learning management system (LMS) built on a social network. Schoology leverages the familiarity of popular social media tools such as Google Docs and Facebook to improve communication and collaboration. It is a great tool to use with Middle and High School students and between faculty members.
